Why I started Line of Sight
I couldn’t stand working for the “Man” any more AND Tim and I had a vision of a really great place to work with great people on cool projects and figured it was up to us to create that place.
What floats my boat
A wry sense of humor (the Brits know comedy); REAL New York pizza; big problems that I can dive into and fix; my wife and two sons, oh…and anything baseball, including coaching Little League.
What I think is out of line
Someone saying, “It can’t be done.”
Favorite LOS projects
- Rapidly designing and implementing a new process for cross-department coordination at ACE USA Insurance to improve their end of year financial reporting.
- Redesigning a Tuft’s University department charged with raising over $1B over the next few years; including development of a new mission, vision, values, and goals for the department, as well as the definition of its core customer-facing business processes.
- Delivering the NY State Project Management Mentoring program; working with the next wave of project leaders across the state government.
Life before Line of Sight
Jon is a Project Management Professional, certified by the Project Management Institute. His project management credentials include the development of the New York State Project Management Mentoring Program (PMMP), an intensive six-month training and mentoring program for managers across all state agencies. Jon also facilitated the development of the vision and strategic plan of the Defense Department’s Joint Force Headquarters – charged with defending the National Capital Region against terrorist attacks.
In 2001, Jon hosted “Business to Business” a radio show delivering practical advice from business leaders to business leaders on the issues of the day. Armed with an advanced degree in National Security Policy, he entered the consulting ranks for the laid-back work environment.
Jon has published articles and delivered numerous presentations in the areas of project management, business process reengineering, and leadership. He and Tim wrote a chapter for the Project Manager’s Handbook: Applying Best Practices Across Global Industries published by McGraw-Hill in August 2007.

Why we started Line of Sight
We wanted to create a company that delivers pragmatic results and tremendous value for a fair price. To be successful, our company needed to be based on solid relationships – from our employees to our clients. We hated the idea of being driven by the constant pursuit of profits.
What floats my boat
Seeing a client “get it” – that the pain they’ve been through to change has made them stronger and even helped to shape the new ways of doing business.
What drives me nuts
Stale, corporate thinking that has stolen the dignity of professional services. We see it all the time – professionals stuck in jobs that are unrelated to their organization’s mission. We have opted instead to create a guild of professionals who practice their craft with competence.
Favorite LOS projects
- Leading a client project team through the creation of a Contact Relationship Management Organization (CRMO)
- Supporting a major reengineering of the New York state retirement system, the nation’s second largest after California, with process reengineering expertise
- Writing a chapter with Jon for the Project Manager’s Handbook: Applying Best Practices Across Global Industries published by McGraw-Hill in August 2007
Life before Line of Sight
Tim has more than a decade of experience as a project management practitioner, writer and trainer. He has developed and delivered numerous PM courses with titles like “The Fundamentals of Project Management,” “Project Sponsorship” and the “New York State Guidebook Overview.” Tim earned his BS with a concentration in Management and Information Systems from the University of Maryland. He has been a member of PMI since 2001 and earned his Project Management Professional (PMP) certification in 2003.

Why I signed on with Line of Sight
We can honestly say, “Our clients love us”. Through our commitment to excellence and
integrity, we become trusted advisors to our clients. And we have fun doing it.
What floats my boat?
Being outdoors. I have a healthy (?) addiction for telemark skiing, surfing and cycling.
When I am inside, high functioning teams motivate me. I love when a team works so
well together, you can visibly see the genius evolve.
What drives me nuts?
Indecision and the inability to get things done. OK, people can make bad decisions, but
if they refuse to act, they’ll never know. If you act, and it’s wrong, at least you can learn
from your mistake. If you fail to act, you will fail, guaranteed.
Favorite Projects
- North Country Behavioral Health Network hired Line of Sight to Facilitate 12
behavioral health providers through the selection of an Electronic Health Records
solution (EHR). The goal was to realize significant savings through a joint
purchasing agreement for the EHR. Success was contingent upon getting these
organizations to see their similarities and work around their differences.\ - Designing and implementing the agency wide Project Management Office at the
New York state Department of Health. - Assisting the New York State Department of Health transition to the Statewide
Financial System. This project required a mix of business analysis, project
management and organizational change management. It was an incredibly
complex project with considerable challenges.
